Cape Ann Paddle

There are so many nooks and crannies on cape ann to explore. I dropped into the Annisquam for an afternoon paddle at slack tide, following the tide on the ride home. Pearce Island sits alone, dotted with micro off the grid summer shacks, on the west side of the salty river. Google didn't provide much on the  history of this place, so its another thing to put on the list for a rainy day...

In the Desert

A few days in the desert with the boys did the mind and body good. Zion National Park, Utah and Red Rock Canyon, Nevada had some great spots to hike and soak up the clear dry weather.

Mt Washington

New Hampshire's 4000 footers. One more off the list. Saturdays weather was the perfect window to hit Mt Washington, deemed the most dangerous small mountain in the world, claiming as many lives as Denali and Rainier. Despite that, it was a pretty straightforward climb. Most of the hike is through a dense glade with well marked and broken trail. The top third is a brutal, highly exposed boulder field. The temperature dropped very quickly and the winds came out of nowhere which I suspect is what gets most hikers. Its very easy to get blown off course, and a small group of us ended up in a snowfield between trails on the way down.

The past few sessions in RI turned from a medium offshore breeze to full gale side shore breeze and  windsurfers invaded the scene in a quick hurry.
