Signs

Native Americans believed the coyote was the most mystical omen of all. The Navajo would never kill one for fear of its meaning.  They represented major shifts...the end of one world and beginning of another - bringing new life and direction from a major shift in nature. In numerology, 17 represents immortality. 17 years ago, my original waterman hero passed on to another watery world. He taught me simplicity, humility, strength and balance. Last night the coyotes sang outside my house in full chorus....all night into the early morning....and the ocean is providing us with clean swell all weekend into early next week. A fitting tribute.

Watermen, circa 1952. Houseboat life on the East River. Playing in the backyard.......
