The search for Bigfoot

I have a map of coastal maine on my wall, and like a hollywood detective I have been methodically placing pins in the most suspicous of places. The coast south of Portland is not unlike the rest of the east coast, more typical of the northeast, but not without sandy beachbreaks. Its the coast north of Cape Elizabeth that becomes more elusive. Watch the swell model for New England. There are two general areas in the North that are swell magnets. The entire coast could be blue, and these guys are turned all shades of yellow and red. And, if nothing else, the prospect of hope is enough to keep me young, foolish, and hungry....

Friday, Veterans Day, became a distraction from my glorious mission. I stuck to my go to spots north of Hampton and just over the Maine border for a safe bet. No way I am passing up head high, offshore, and sunshine. Nope, not a gambling man with that.

So, its high tide thru mid tide at my NH spot, where longboarders rule a nice long reef, left hander. My go to board is now my 9'4" single fin, even in head high + surf she feels comfortable.  At mid tide, the shortboard invasion fills the lineup and the vibe goes sour.

Wetsuit down to the waist, its a few minutes up to a nice little cove in Maine where the max crowd usually peaks at 2, local friendlys who greet you with a smile and a genuine "how ya doin".

Saturday was northbound. Still a bit of swell running, but the wind was screaming side and on shore. As I reported from Cambden, its a hell of a lot of driving up and down the Maine penninsulas, but the scenery is so awesome. By nightfall, a few spots were noted, but nothing rideable, mainly due to the weather.

A nice beer and grub in a local watering hole Saturday night, and off to sleep.

Sunday was a ride back south to Higgins for a fun late morning session, nothing too special wave wise, but a good vibe and beautiful spot.

I finished off with another local meal close to the beach, in local company, and this time I wished lunch could last forever.......
